## Querying This Documentation
This site has an agentic ask interface you may use to query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.zentachain.io/index.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

# Overview

Zentachain is a privacy-focused blockchain project securing IoT communication and data storage through decentralized infrastructure.

## Overview

Zentachain is a privacy-focused IoT blockchain networking project. We connect decentralized network dynamic routing and AI mesh networking, with a strong emphasis on protecting user privacy and ensuring the confidentiality of communications. Zentachain utilizes hybrid encryption techniques, combining multiple encryption methods to enhance security.

**Zentalk** is our secure and decentralized messaging application — an end-to-end encrypted messenger built on a mesh network of independent validator nodes. Using Signal Protocol, 3-hop onion routing, zero-knowledge proofs, and post-quantum cryptography, Zentalk protects user privacy and maintains connectivity even offline. Available now at [zentalk.chat](https://www.zentalk.chat/).

**Zentamesh** is a decentralized mesh network that enables secure communication and data sharing between devices. Zentamesh relies on nodes, called Zentanodes, to relay encrypted data across the network, ensuring reliable connectivity even in challenging conditions. The network uses AI-powered routing with Q-learning and Artificial Neural Networks to optimize performance.

**Zentanode** is the hardware that powers the Zentamesh network. Operators earn CHAIN tokens monthly for maintaining the network infrastructure and enabling offline communication within a 6km range.

**CHAIN** is the native ERC-20 utility token of the Zentachain ecosystem with a fixed supply of 5,000,000 tokens. It is used for staking, governance, service payments, and node rewards.

Overall, Zentachain provides a decentralized and secure solution for IoT networking and communication. We reward users who participate in the network with CHAIN tokens, encouraging them to support and contribute to the growth of the Zentachain ecosystem.

## Token Utility

CHAIN serves multiple functions within the Zentachain ecosystem:

* **Staking & Governance** — Stake CHAIN to participate in network governance and earn rewards
* **Service Payments** — Pay for ecosystem services including Zentalk secure messaging and Zentanode operations
* **Node Rewards** — Zentanode operators who maintain the Zentamesh network receive CHAIN tokens as mining rewards

The token creates a circular economy where network participants are incentivized to secure the network through staking, operate infrastructure by running Zentanodes, utilize privacy-focused services like Zentalk, and contribute to the decentralized Zentamesh network.

### Staking Pools

Three pools are live on mainnet with different APR rates and lock-up periods:

| Pool | APR | Min Stake   | Max Stake    | Unstake Lock |
| ---- | --- | ----------- | ------------ | ------------ |
| 0    | 12% | 1,000 CHAIN | 10,000 CHAIN | 7 days       |
| 1    | 16% | 2,000 CHAIN | 20,000 CHAIN | 14 days      |
| 2    | 20% | 5,000 CHAIN | 50,000 CHAIN | 28 days      |

* Rewards are minted directly — no pre-funded reward pool
* Compound staking available (add more tokens to existing stake)
* Claim rewards every 24 hours

### Zentanode Rewards

{% hint style="info" %}
There are currently no active Zentanodes on the network. The rewards structure below outlines the planned incentive model that will take effect once Zentanode operations begin.
{% endhint %}

| Metric                     | Value         |
| -------------------------- | ------------- |
| Target Zentanodes          | 500 nodes     |
| Monthly reward per node    | 25 CHAIN      |
| Total monthly distribution | 12,500 CHAIN  |
| Annual distribution        | 150,000 CHAIN |

### Governance

The CHAIN token community will maintain direct control over economic parameters through decentralized governance:

* **Inflation Management** — Propose and vote on adjustments to the Zentanode reward structure and token distribution rates
* **Product Price Independence** — Token rewards operate independently of Zentanode product pricing, enabling flexible monetary policy without affecting product economics

## Overview

StakeChain is the staking smart contract that allows CHAIN token holders to stake their tokens in configurable pools and earn rewards. Rewards are minted directly to stakers — there is no pre-funded reward pool.

The contract is built on Solidity ^0.8.28 with OpenZeppelin v5.2.0 libraries and includes reentrancy protection, timestamp manipulation safeguards, and owner-controlled administration.

## Live Staking Pools

Three staking pools are currently active on mainnet:

| Pool | APR | Min Stake | Max Stake | Pool Size | Claim Lock | Unstake Lock |
| ---- | --- | ----------- | ------------ | ------------- | ---------- | ------------ |
| 0    | 12% | 1,000 CHAIN | 10,000 CHAIN | 100,000 CHAIN | 1 day      | 7 days       |
| 1    | 16% | 2,000 CHAIN | 20,000 CHAIN | 200,000 CHAIN | 1 day      | 14 days      |
| 2    | 20% | 5,000 CHAIN | 50,000 CHAIN | 500,000 CHAIN | 1 day      | 28 days      |

Higher APR pools require larger minimum stakes and longer lock-up periods.

## Pool System

Each staking pool is an independent configuration with its own parameters:

| Parameter              | Description                                         |
| ---------------------- | --------------------------------------------------- |
| APR                    | Annual Percentage Rate in basis points (1600 = 16%) |
| Minimum Stake Amount | Lowest amount a user can stake |
| Maximum Stake Per User | Cap on individual stakes |
| Pool Size Limit | Maximum total tokens in the pool |
| Claim Time Lock | Minimum time between reward claims (1 day) |
| Unstake Time Lock | Minimum time before withdrawal allowed |

***

## Staking

### Standard Staking

Two-transaction process:

1. **Approve** — User approves the StakeChain contract to spend their CHAIN tokens
2. **Stake** — Call `stake(poolId, amount)` to deposit tokens into a pool

### Permit-Based Staking

Single-transaction process using ERC-2612 permit signatures:

* Call `stakeWithPermit(poolId, amount, deadline, v, r, s)`
* Combines approval and staking in one transaction
* Saves gas and improves UX

### Compound Staking

Users can add more tokens to an existing stake at any time:

* Previous rewards are preserved and continue accruing
* The unstake timer resets for the **entire** staked amount
* New rewards begin accruing on the combined amount

***

## Rewards

### Calculation

Rewards are calculated based on time elapsed and the pool's APR:

```
Annual Rewards = (Staked Amount × APR) / 10,000
Rewards Per Second = Annual Rewards / 31,536,000
Earned = Rewards Per Second × Time Elapsed
```

**Key details:**

* APR is stored in basis points (1200 = 12%, 1600 = 16%, 2000 = 20%)
* A 15-minute timestamp buffer is applied to prevent manipulation
* Rewards are **minted** to the user (inflationary), not drawn from a pool

### Claiming

* User calls `claimRewards(poolId)`
* Claim time lock (1 day) must have elapsed since last claim
* Pool must not be paused
* Rewards are minted directly to the user's wallet

***

## Unstaking

### Standard Unstake

* Unstake time lock must have elapsed since staking (7/14/28 days depending on pool)
* Returns full staked amount plus any unclaimed rewards
* Removes user from the pool

### Emergency Unstake

* Only available when emergency mode is enabled for the pool
* Bypasses time lock restrictions
* Returns staked amount plus accumulated rewards
* Emergency mode has a 24-hour toggle cooldown to prevent abuse

## APR Changes

To prevent front-running:

1. Owner schedules an APR change via `scheduleAPRChange(poolId, newAPR)`
2. A 48-hour delay period begins
3. After the delay, anyone can call `applyPendingAPRChange(poolId)` to activate it
4. All changes are publicly visible on-chain

## Zentanode Rewards Contract

A separate contract (`Zentanode.sol`) handles node operator rewards independently from StakeChain:

| Parameter         | Value                                        |
| ----------------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| Address           | `0x5a427e6aA609509C6EE089502a048f17B4895a9b` |
| Rewards Per Claim | 25 CHAIN (configurable, max 1,000)           |
| Claim Duration    | 31 days                                      |
| Slash Duration    | 15 days                                      |
| Daily Mint Limit  | 100,000 CHAIN                                |
| Access            | Allowlist-based                              |

Node operators are added to the allowlist and can claim rewards at regular intervals. The contract includes a slashing mechanism for misbehaving nodes and pro-rated partial rewards for operator removal.

# Staking Guide

## Getting Started

1. Visit [staking.zentachain.io](https://staking.zentachain.io)
2. Connect your Web3 wallet (MetaMask, Trust Wallet, or WalletConnect-compatible)
3. Ensure you have CHAIN tokens and ETH for gas fees in your wallet

***

## Understanding Pools

Before staking, review the available pool parameters:

| Parameter              | What It Means                                               |
| ---------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| APR                    | Your annual reward rate (e.g., 16% APR = 1600 basis points) |
| Minimum Stake | Lowest amount you can deposit |
| Maximum Stake Per User | Upper limit on your individual stake (if enforced) |
| Pool Size | Total capacity of the pool |
| Claim Time Lock | How long you must wait between claiming rewards |
| Unstake Time Lock | How long after staking before you can withdraw |

***

## How to Stake

### Method 1: Standard Staking (Two Transactions)

1. Select a pool and review its parameters
2. Enter the amount of CHAIN you want to stake
3. **Transaction 1:** Approve the contract to spend your tokens
4. **Transaction 2:** Confirm the staking transaction

### Method 2: Permit-Based Staking (One Transaction)

For wallets that support ERC-2612 permits:

1. Select a pool and enter your amount
2. Sign the permit message (off-chain, no gas)
3. **Transaction:** Confirm staking — approval and deposit happen together

{% hint style="info" %}
Permit-based staking saves gas by combining approval and staking into a single transaction.
{% endhint %}

***

## Managing Your Stake

### Dashboard

After staking, your dashboard shows:

* **Active Stakes** — Your staked amounts across all pools
* **Accumulated Rewards** — Real-time reward tracking
* **Time Locks** — Remaining time until you can claim or unstake

### Claiming Rewards

1. Check that your claim time lock has elapsed
2. Click **Claim Rewards**
3. Confirm the transaction in your wallet
4. Rewards are minted directly to your wallet

{% hint style="warning" %}
Claiming resets the claim timer. You must wait the full claim time lock period before claiming again.
{% endhint %}

### Adding More Tokens (Compounding)

You can add tokens to an existing stake at any time:

* Your previous rewards continue accruing
* The **unstake timer resets** for the entire amount
* New rewards begin accruing on the combined total

***

## Unstaking

### Standard Unstake

1. Verify the unstake time lock has elapsed
2. Click **Unstake**
3. Confirm the transaction
4. Your staked tokens plus unclaimed rewards are returned to your wallet

### Emergency Unstake

Only available when a pool is in emergency mode:

* Bypasses time locks
* Returns all staked tokens plus accumulated rewards
* Emergency mode is controlled by the contract owner

***

## Pool Status Types

| Status    | Meaning                                          |
| --------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| Active | Normal operations — staking, claiming, unstaking |
| Paused | Temporarily suspended — no new operations |
| Emergency | Emergency mode — immediate unstake available |

***

## APR Changes

APR changes are subject to a **48-hour delay** to prevent front-running:

1. A change is scheduled and becomes publicly visible on-chain
2. After 48 hours, the new APR takes effect
3. You can monitor pending changes through the dashboard

***

## Security

* **Reentrancy Protection** — All transactions are protected against reentrancy attacks
* **Smart Contract Callers Blocked** — Only externally owned accounts (wallets) can interact
* **Timestamp Buffer** — A 15-minute buffer prevents timestamp manipulation in reward calculations
* **Emergency Cooldown** — Emergency mode can only be toggled once every 24 hours

***

## Troubleshooting

| Issue                | Solution                                         |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| Transaction fails | Check you have enough CHAIN and ETH for gas |
| Cannot claim rewards | Wait for the claim time lock to expire |
| Cannot unstake | Wait for the unstake time lock to expire |
| Pool is paused | Wait for the pool to be resumed by the admin |
| Insufficient balance | Verify CHAIN tokens are in your connected wallet |

***

## Contracts

All contracts are verified on Etherscan:

# About

Zentalk is an end-to-end encrypted messenger on a decentralized mesh network. No central server, no phone number required, fully open source.

## Speak Freely. Trust Math, Not Servers.

Zentalk is a next-generation messaging platform where no server can read your messages — because mathematically, they can't. Every message, call, file, and piece of metadata is encrypted on your device before it ever touches the network. Nodes store and relay data they are cryptographically unable to decrypt. Your keys never leave your device.

{% hint style="info" %}
Zentalk is available now at [zentalk.chat](https://www.zentalk.chat/). No phone number required — sign in with a Web3 wallet.
{% endhint %}

***

## Two Modes of Communication

Zentalk operates in two distinct modes. Both use end-to-end encryption — the difference is how messages travel between users.

### Online Mode — Validator Network

For global communication over the internet. Messages are routed through a decentralized network of independent validator nodes — internet-connected Go servers that relay encrypted data they cannot read. This is the primary mode when using Zentalk Web at [zentalk.chat](https://www.zentalk.chat/).

* **Range:** Global (via internet)
* **Infrastructure:** Validator nodes (Go servers operated by independent participants)
* **Routing:** 3-hop onion routing (RSA-4096 per layer)
* **Encryption:** Signal Protocol (X3DH + Double Ratchet)
* **Requirements:** Internet connection

### Offline Mode — Zentanode Hardware Mesh

For local communication without internet. Messages are routed through Zentanode devices — physical hardware that creates a local radio mesh network using LoRa, Bluetooth, and WiFi. No internet required.

* **Range:** Up to 6 km per Zentanode (extendable through multi-hop)
* **Infrastructure:** Zentanode hardware devices (ARM-based, 5W power)
* **Routing:** Local mesh relay (node-to-node, LoRa/BLE/WiFi)
* **Encryption:** AES-256 end-to-end
* **Requirements:** Zentanode device within range, no internet needed

{% hint style="warning" %}
These are two separate networks. Online mode uses internet-connected validator servers. Offline mode uses local Zentanode hardware. Both encrypt all data end-to-end — neither validators nor Zentanode devices can read your messages.
{% endhint %}

## Why Zentalk

Traditional messengers rely on central servers controlled by a single company. Your messages pass through their infrastructure, your metadata is logged, and your privacy depends on their promise not to look.

**Zentalk's Answer:**

* **No Central Server** — Messages are routed through independent validator nodes or local Zentanode hardware
* **Server-Blind Encryption** — Nodes store and relay encrypted data they cannot decrypt
* **No Phone Number Required** — Sign in with a Web3 wallet or phone — your choice
* **No Single Point of Failure** — The network runs across hundreds of independent nodes
* **Works Offline** — Communicate within 6 km of a Zentanode without internet
* **Open Source** — Every line of code is auditable. Trust is verified, not assumed

***

## Online Architecture

Zentalk's online mode runs on three components. All encryption happens on your device — the network only sees encrypted data.

### 1. Your Device (Client)

A Progressive Web App (PWA) built with Next.js. The Signal Protocol (X3DH + Double Ratchet) runs entirely in your browser. Keys are generated and stored on your device. The server never sees plaintext.

### 2. API Server (Metadata Broker)

A Go-based "Blind Metadata Broker" that orchestrates the network but cannot decrypt anything. It handles authentication, WebSocket connections, and profile management — all with encrypted blobs only.

### 3. Validator Node Network

Full Nodes operated by independent validators, written in Go (579 source files across 41 packages). Each node is a single binary running three modules:

| Module       | Port | Function                                                        |
| ------------ | ---- | --------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Relay Module | 9001 | Routes encrypted messages, queues offline messages (30-day TTL) |
| Mesh Storage | 8080 | Stores encrypted chunks with Reed-Solomon erasure coding        |
| DHT Node     | 9101 | Kademlia peer discovery, GossipSub pub/sub, NAT traversal       |

***

## End-to-End Encryption

Zentalk implements a production-grade **Signal Protocol** with modern security extensions.

### Cryptographic Algorithms

| Component            | Algorithm                | Key Size                   |
| -------------------- | ------------------------ | -------------------------- |
| Key Exchange         | X25519 (Curve25519)      | 256-bit                    |
| Digital Signatures   | Ed25519                  | 256-bit                    |
| Symmetric Encryption | AES-256-GCM              | 256-bit + 128-bit auth tag |
| Key Derivation       | HKDF-SHA256              | Per RFC 5869               |
| HMAC                 | HMAC-SHA256              | 256-bit                    |
| IV/Nonce             | Cryptographically random | 96-bit per message         |

### What the Server Can Never See

| Data                     | Encrypted | Server Visible |
| ------------------------ | --------- | -------------- |
| Message content          | Yes       | Never          |
| Media files              | Yes       | Never          |
| Read receipts            | Yes       | Never          |
| Typing indicators        | Yes       | Never          |
| User profiles            | Yes       | Never          |
| Contact lists            | Yes       | Never          |
| Call signaling (SDP/ICE) | Yes       | Never          |
| Group membership         | Yes       | Never          |
| Presence status          | Yes       | Never          |

### Forward Secrecy & Recovery

* **Per-Message Forward Secrecy** — Each message uses a unique key derived from the Double Ratchet. Keys are deleted after use. Compromising one message cannot reveal others.
* **Post-Compromise Recovery** — The DH ratchet introduces fresh randomness with each exchange. Even if a session is compromised, security automatically recovers after one message round-trip.

### Key Management

* **Identity Keys** — Ed25519 + X25519 key pairs generated on device, never transmitted
* **Signed Prekeys** — Rotated every 7 days or after 100 messages
* **One-Time Prekeys** — Pool of 10 disposable keys, each used once, auto-replenished
* **Recovery** — BIP-39 compatible 12/24-word mnemonic or wallet signature recovery
* **Automatic Backup** — Keys backed up to mesh, encrypted with AES-256-GCM (PBKDF2, 600K iterations)

***

## 3-Hop Onion Routing

Every message passes through three independent relays, each peeling one encryption layer:

| Relay  | Role                              | Knows               | Does Not Know              |
| ------ | --------------------------------- | ------------------- | -------------------------- |
| Guard | First hop (rotates every 60 days) | Sender IP | Recipient, content |
| Middle | Second hop (random) | Previous & next hop | Sender, recipient, content |
| Exit | Third hop (random) | Recipient address | Sender IP, content |

Each layer uses **RSA-4096 per-hop encryption** wrapped around the E2EE payload. No single relay knows both sender and recipient.

***

## Zero-Knowledge Proofs

Zentalk uses **Rate-Limiting Nullifiers (RLN)** with Groth16 proofs on BN254 elliptic curve:

* Users prove network membership without revealing identity
* Spammers mathematically lose anonymity if they violate rate limits (256 messages per epoch)
* Proof generation: 90–150ms | Proof verification: 1.7–5ms per message
* Supports up to 1M users (tree depth 20)

***

## Post-Quantum Cryptography

Zentalk implements hybrid post-quantum key exchange to protect against future quantum computers:

| Algorithm   | Standard          | Security Level         |
| ----------- | ----------------- | ---------------------- |
| Kyber-768   | ML-KEM (FIPS 203) | \~192-bit post-quantum |
| Dilithium-3 | ML-DSA (FIPS 204) | \~192-bit post-quantum |

**Defense-in-depth:** Both classical (X25519/Ed25519) AND post-quantum algorithms must be broken to compromise a session. This protects against "harvest now, decrypt later" attacks.

***

## Data Redundancy

Zentalk uses **Reed-Solomon erasure coding** to ensure data survives node failures:

* **10 data shards + 5 parity shards = 15 total**
* Can lose up to 5 shards and fully recover all data
* Anti-entropy service checks every hour and auto-repairs degraded chunks

| Status    | Shards Available | Action                |
| --------- | :--------------: | --------------------- |
| Excellent |       15/15      | None needed           |
| Good      |     13–14/15     | Monitor               |
| Degraded  |     11–12/15     | Auto-repair triggered |
| Critical  |       10/15      | Urgent repair         |

***

# Validators

How the Zentalk validator network works, what validators do, and why running a node matters for the decentralized mesh.

## What is a Validator?

A validator is an independent node operator who runs a relay server that powers the Zentalk network. Validators route encrypted messages between users, store encrypted data chunks, and participate in peer discovery — all without being able to read any of the content they handle.

The Zentalk network has no central server. Instead, it relies on a distributed mesh of validator nodes operated by independent participants around the world. The more validators join the network, the more resilient, private, and censorship-resistant it becomes.

{% hint style="info" %}
Validators handle only encrypted data. Even a malicious validator cannot decrypt messages, read files, or identify who is communicating with whom.
{% endhint %}

***

## What Validators Do

Each validator node performs three core functions simultaneously:

### Message Relay

The relay module routes encrypted messages between users in real-time. When a recipient is offline, messages are queued in an encrypted store and delivered when they reconnect. All routing uses 3-hop onion encryption — no single relay knows both the sender and recipient of any message.

### Mesh Storage

The storage module holds encrypted data chunks distributed across the network using Reed-Solomon erasure coding. Files are split into shards and spread across multiple validators, ensuring data survives even if some nodes go offline. Validators store these shards without the ability to reconstruct or read the original data.

### Peer Discovery

The DHT (Distributed Hash Table) module enables validators to find each other and new users to discover available nodes. This uses the Kademlia protocol via libp2p, with automatic health monitoring and recovery. Validators also participate in GossipSub for network-wide announcements.

***

## Why Run a Validator

* **Earn Rewards** — Validators earn CHAIN tokens for relaying messages and providing storage services to the network
* **Support Privacy** — Every validator strengthens the decentralized network, making surveillance and censorship harder
* **Low Barrier** — A single binary deployment with Docker support, no complex infrastructure required
* **Full Monitoring** — Built-in Prometheus metrics, health endpoints, and support for Grafana dashboards
* **Open Participation** — Anyone can join as a validator, no permission required

***

## How It Works

### Server-Blind Architecture

Validators operate on a "lockbox" principle. They receive, store, and forward encrypted blobs — but they never hold the keys to decrypt them. This is enforced by cryptography, not policy:

* Message content is encrypted with Signal Protocol before it ever reaches a validator
* Routing information is wrapped in 3 layers of onion encryption (RSA-4096 per layer)
* Group membership is hidden through Sealed Fanout delivery
* Storage chunks are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before sharding

Even if a validator operator inspects every byte passing through their node, they see only encrypted data with no way to determine its contents or link senders to recipients.

### Federation

Validators automatically discover each other through the DHT network. When a user connected to one validator sends a message to a user on a different validator, the message is forwarded between relays using TLS with mutual authentication and certificate pinning.

The network uses weighted relay selection to optimize routing:

| Strategy   | Priority                                 | Best For                |
| ---------- | ---------------------------------------- | ----------------------- |
| Balanced | Latency, capacity, reputation, geography | General messaging |
| Latency | Lowest response time | Voice and video calls |
| Capacity | Most available storage | File sharing |
| Reputation | Highest reliability score | Critical communications |

### Self-Healing

The network automatically handles node failures:

* Disconnected peers are retried with exponential backoff
* Degraded storage shards are automatically repaired by the anti-entropy service
* Routing tables are refreshed every 10 minutes
* Unhealthy nodes are temporarily excluded from relay selection

***

## Network Security

Validators are hardened with multiple security layers:

| Protection           | Implementation                                          |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| Transport Encryption | TLS 1.3 + Noise Protocol for all node communication |
| Anti-Sybil           | Peer scoring (100 points baseline, disconnect below 20) |
| Subnet Diversity | Max 3 peers per IPv4 /24 to prevent eclipse attacks |
| Rate Limiting        | 3-layer: per-IP, per-address, and ZKP-based (RLN)       |
| Replay Prevention | Nonce tracking with 45-second timestamp window |
| DDoS Protection | 10K connection limit with load shedding |
| Membership Tokens    | Ed25519 signed tokens with epoch-based revocation       |

***

## Node Capacity Management

Validators automatically manage their resources:

| Capacity | Status    | Behavior                    |
| -------- | --------- | --------------------------- |
| 0–70%    | Healthy   | Accept all writes           |
| 70–80%   | Warning   | Accept writes, log warnings |
| 80–90%   | Degraded  | Reject large files          |
| 90–95%   | Critical  | Serve existing users only   |
| 95–100%  | Emergency | Reject all new writes       |

The network routes around overloaded validators automatically, ensuring consistent service quality.

***

## Resilience Testing

The validator software is tested against **49+ chaos engineering scenarios** including:

* Network partitions and split-brain conditions
* Node failures and unexpected restarts
* Storage corruption and disk pressure
* Certificate expiration and key rotation failures
* Memory pressure and resource exhaustion

This ensures the network remains operational under real-world failure conditions.

## Zentanode

<figure><img src="https://3136810628-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGKY3W1tvt1Jod462Gn%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-604b739a4e539ad71ed2241e0bdd40655f653081%2FSpace%20man%20with%20Zentanod.png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Zentanodes are dedicated hardware devices for offline communication through the Zentamesh network. They create a local radio mesh using LoRa, Bluetooth, and WiFi — enabling encrypted communication within a 6km range without internet access. Each Zentanode is assigned a unique Hash-Id and operates as a relay point in the mesh topology, forwarding encrypted data from node to node.

Zentanodes are separate from Zentalk's online validator nodes. Validators are internet-connected servers that route messages globally. Zentanodes are physical hardware devices that enable local offline communication.

‌Zentagate runs the service that allows data and transactions to be routed in the network with a node and allows the user to stay connected without internet access. It ensures extra encryption by AES and an anti-hack layer, to ensure the user is securely protected. The gateway connects to the ecosystem for the usage of the Zentamesh such as the Internet. All Zentanodes in the network can also act as their Gateway to expand the network. Since each node owner has its own ID, they can isolate their node with a pin code to connect to their nodes.

## **Rootnode**

```
The root node is the top node in the network and serves as the only interface between the Zentamesh and an external IP network which is protected with the Tor Network. Once the root node has connected to the router, idle nodes in the range of the root node will begin connecting with the root node thereby, forming the second layer of the network.
The root node can also be designated by a user which will entail the designated root node to directly connect with the router and forgo the election process. When the root node is designated, all other nodes within the network must also forget the election process to prevent the occurrence of a root node conflict.
## **Beacon Layer**
Beacons are packets that are regularly announced by nodes and unprovisioned devices. The mesh beacon payload is contained in a Bluetooth GAP AD type called mesh beacon AD type. More information about AD types in general can be found in the Bluetooth Core Specification Supplement.
Currently, two types of mesh beacons are defined: Unprovisioned Device Beacon and Secure Network Beacon. The Unprovisioned Device Beacon allows a provisioner to discover the device and initiate the provisioning process.
The Secure Network Beacon is used to indicate the security status of a node with respect to a particular subnet to which the node belongs, in terms of the IV Update and Key Refresh security procedures.
Zentanodes serve as the cornerstone of Zentamesh, Zentachain's innovative network designed for secure, offline communication. Acting as individual nodes within the network, these vital hardware components are more than mere data relay points; they form the fundamental infrastructure that ensures the network's scalability, resilience, and reach.
Each Zentanode is an active participant in the network's mesh topology, capable of linking an array of devices such as mobile phones, routers, switches, and gateways. This broad compatibility highlights the flexibility and adaptability of the Zentanode, accommodating diverse user requirements and varying technological contexts. To maintain distinct identification within the network, every Zentanode is assigned a unique Hash-Id, emphasizing the network's commitment to security and precision.
Scalability lies at the heart of the Zentanode design philosophy. With each new Zentanode addition, the Zentamesh network's coverage area expands, effectively turning scalability from a challenge into an asset. Moreover, every new node increases the number of potential data transmission paths or "hops," adding a layer of redundancy and resilience to the network. This decentralization fortifies the system against potential single points of failure and ensures reliable data transfer even as the network grows.
Devices running the Zentalk messenger application can connect to nearby Zentanodes to communicate through the local mesh — but the Zentanode hardware device itself is the relay infrastructure that makes offline communication possible.
The Zentanode is more than a hardware component; it's the physical infrastructure that enables offline communication. By deploying more Zentanodes, the Zentamesh network's coverage area expands, making scalability a defining feature of the system.
## Real-World Applications
Zentachain's potential extends to various practical applications due to its encrypted, decentralized, and offline communication capabilities. This flexibility can revolutionize several sectors, offering potential solutions for numerous real-world scenarios:
Keeping the Zentamesh network and Zentanode devices functioning optimally is a task that the Zentachain team takes very seriously. A dedicated group of developers is always at work, ensuring the smooth operation and continuous improvement of the network and devices.
The team has developed the Zentanode Updater, a convenient software tool, to simplify the update process. Users can connect their Zentanode devices via USB and follow an intuitive process to update their software to the latest version. This approach ensures Zentanodes always have the most recent features and security measures, and it is straightforward enough for any user to handle.
In terms of bug fixes and network issues, the mesh structure of Zentamesh helps to significantly reduce potential problems. Mesh networks, due to their decentralized design and lack of a single point of failure, are inherently robust and resilient to many common network issues. Most issues that do arise tend to be associated with the framework or APIs rather than the mesh network itself.
However, in the event of a bug or network issue, the Zentachain team has the expertise to respond swiftly and effectively. The team can quickly diagnose and address any issues, with patches distributed through the Zentanode Updater to minimize disruption to users. Their proactive approach to maintaining and updating the network and devices ensures Zentamesh and Zentanode continue to provide reliable, secure, and efficient communication tools for users.
The Zentanode process flow is a complex, multi-step procedure that involves multiple components, including the root node, gateways, additional nodes, and data transmission. Here is a detailed description of each step of the process:
1. **Zentanode Device Start**: The process begins when a Zentanode device is powered on. The starting device, by default, becomes the root node of the network, serving as the primary interface with the external internet.
2. **Root Node**: As the initial node of the network, the root node plays a critical role in establishing the foundation of the Zentamesh network.
3. **Establish Gateway**: Following its designation as the root node, the device establishes a gateway. This critical step allows connectivity for additional nodes within the network, ensuring data can be relayed across the network seamlessly.
4. **Zentamesh Network Formation**: With the root node and gateway in place, the formation of the Zentamesh network begins. This involves the addition of extra nodes to the network, extending its reach and capacity.
5. **Add Zentanode**: Additional Zentanodes are added to the network, each contributing to the overall network capacity and range. These nodes also initiate the process of message transmission.
6. **Message Transmission**: Once a node is added to the network, it can begin to send and receive encrypted messages.
7. **Encrypt and Send Message**: Messages to be transmitted over the network are first encrypted, providing a secure layer of protection for data in transit. These encrypted messages are then sent across the network.
8. **Decrypt and Receive Message**: Upon receipt, the encrypted messages are decrypted by the receiving node. This ensures that the content of the message remains secure until it reaches its intended recipient.
9. **Expand Network**: As more nodes are added to the network, its range and capacity increase. This growth in network size is accommodated by the addition of new nodes, extending the network's reach.
10. **Add Zentanode**: The ongoing expansion of the network involves the continued addition of Zentanodes. These additional nodes increase the network's range, allowing for more extensive and efficient data transmission.
This detailed description of the process should provide a solid understanding of how Zentanodes operate within the Zentamesh network. With each step, from the establishment of the root node to the continuous expansion of the network, the Zentamesh network ensures secure, efficient, and extensive data transmission.
## Range Estimation
Under ideal line-of-sight conditions, the theoretical range can be estimated using the Friis transmission equation:
```
Pr = Pt + Gt + Gr - 20*log10(d) - 20*log10(f) - 32.44
```
| Variable | Description           | Zentanode Value |
| -------- | --------------------- | --------------- |
| Pt       | Transmit power        | 10 dBm          |
| Gt       | Transmit antenna gain | 3 dBi           |
| Gr       | Receive antenna gain  | 3 dBi           |
| f        | Frequency             | 900 MHz         |
| Pr(min)  | Receiver sensitivity  | -100 dBm        |
**Result: approximately 8.6 km range under ideal conditions.**
{% hint style="warning" %}
Real-world range is typically lower due to obstructions, terrain, and multipath fading. The practical operating range of a Zentanode is up to 6 km. Mesh networking with multiple nodes can extend overall coverage.
{% endhint %}
***
## Optimizing Range
* **Placement** — Mount the antenna elevated and away from metal objects, walls, and dense foliage. Line-of-sight to other nodes significantly improves range.
* **Node Density** — Add more Zentanodes to extend coverage through multi-hop mesh routing. Each node acts as a relay.
* **Cable Quality** — Use high-quality, short coaxial cables to minimize signal loss.
* **Grounding** — Proper grounding reduces interference and improves performance.
* **Environment** — Temperature extremes, humidity, and electromagnetic interference can affect antenna performance.
## How Zentanodes Differ from Traditional Mining
Unlike traditional cryptocurrency miners, Zentanodes:
* **Do not depreciate** — They function as decentralized network infrastructure, not mining rigs
* **Have limited supply** — A fixed number of nodes are allocated per city and country
* **Provide real utility** — They power the Zentamesh network for offline communication
* **Earn fixed rewards** — Predictable monthly income, not dependent on mining difficulty
Once major cities and countries are covered, the network reaches its capacity, ensuring the long-term value and stability of each Zentanode.
***
## Benefits of Running a Zentanode
* **Consistent Rewards** — Earn predictable monthly CHAIN tokens
* **Network Contribution** — Secure and decentralize the Zentamesh network
* **Long-Term Value** — Limited supply and essential role in the network
* **Community Participation** — Participate in network governance
* **Low Power** — Only 5W typical power consumption for 24/7 operation
# About
## About Zentamesh
Zentamesh is a decentralized mesh network protocol that enables secure communication even when users are offline. Devices running Zentalk connect to each other in a distributed topology — messages are relayed from node to node until they reach their recipient. No central server is involved. Nobody knows which node is sending or receiving which message.
***
## How It Works
1. **Connect** — Set up your Zentanode and join the global mesh network. Connect with nearby nodes to establish secure communication channels without internet.
2. **Communicate** — Send encrypted messages, files, and data through the mesh. Communications automatically route through the most efficient paths.
3. **Contribute** — Strengthen the network by relaying messages for others. Every connected node expands coverage and improves resilience.
***
## Core Technology
### AI-Powered Routing
Zentamesh uses **Q-learning** and **Artificial Neural Networks (ANN)** to optimize message routing:
* **Q-learning** — A reinforcement learning algorithm that trains an AI agent to make routing decisions based on node availability, distance, and network load. The agent learns and improves over time.
* **ANN** — Neural networks detect node status and availability, analyze data patterns, and optimize routing decisions for better performance and adaptability.
Together, these technologies enable efficient, adaptive routing that works even in dynamic and challenging environments.
### Self-Healing Network
Zentamesh uses **Shortest Path Bridging** to automatically reroute traffic around disruptions. When a node shuts down or a connection becomes unreliable, the network reconfigures itself to maintain connectivity.
### Offline Communication
Zentamesh operates without internet access. Devices within range of a Zentanode (up to 6km) can communicate directly through the mesh network — ideal for remote, underserved, or disaster-affected areas.
## Zentagate
Zentagate is the service that bridges the Zentamesh network with the traditional internet. It routes data and transactions through Zentanodes, providing:
* Connectivity without internet access
* Extra AES encryption layer
* Anti-hack protection
* Every Zentanode can act as its own gateway
* Node isolation via PIN code for security
***
## Security
All data transmitted through Zentamesh is encrypted with **AES-256** from the point of origin:
1. Data is encrypted at the source node
2. Converted to an unreadable format before transmission
3. Intermediate nodes can only decrypt routing metadata — not the actual content
4. Only the intended recipient possesses the decryption key
5. Data remains secure and confidential throughout the entire journey
<summary>Will the Zentanodes be able to cover the whole world for offline-to-offline communication?</summary>
While Zentanode offers offline communication using meshnet technology, it's important to note that the coverage and reach of Zentanodes would depend on various factors, such as the density of Zentanode devices, their range, and the geographical terrain.
Meshnet technology allows devices to communicate with each other in a decentralized manner, forming a network where each device can act as a node that relays messages to other devices. This creates a "mesh" of interconnected devices that can transmit data without relying on a central base station or internet connection.
In theory, if there are enough Zentanode devices deployed in a particular area, they could potentially provide coverage for offline communication within that area. However, achieving global coverage for offline communication would require an extensive deployment of Zentanodes across different regions, including remote and rural areas, which could be challenging and may take time.
It's also important to consider regulatory and legal aspects, as different countries and regions may have their own rules and restrictions on the use of meshnet technology or other forms of decentralized communication.
While Zentanode and similar technologies have the potential to disrupt traditional communication infrastructures and offer more reliable, secure, and decentralized communication, their coverage and impact would depend on various factors, including the adoption rate, deployment scale, and regulatory considerations. Further development and widespread adoption of such technologies may be necessary to fully realize their potential for global offline communication.
